My name is Jason Oliver and I am a Royal College of Art graduate who presently works as staff at the Royal Academy Schools.
My other blog which is
here described in detail a journey to Japan to learn moku hanga, the ancient art of Japanese woodblock printmaking. I returned in December last year and since then have continued my studies of the Japanese language. I had been learning since last April and as I went to Japan in October of last year, although this wasn't a long time learning, it certainly provided a basic grounding in the language.
This blog, then, will be an ongoing document of my 'Nihongo adventure', describing the highs and lows of learning this fascinating and sometimes difficult language. Maybe other students of Japanese will comment and assist along the way, but the main idea is to have something to reflect on as the years pass and my language skills increase. Please forgive any mistakes and maybe if others are interested we can learn together..
It will also document new moku hanga made since coming back from Japan and how the experience of the trip has influenced and shaped the work I make now.
